The European Union's Artificial Intelligence Regulation (AI Act) reached another important milestone in early August 2026: transparency rules that support the responsible and safe use of artificial intelligence became applicable. The new regulations aim to increase user trust and make the operation of AI systems and the content they create more transparent.
The AI Act is the world's first comprehensive, risk-based regulation of artificial intelligence. The provisions now in force require, among other things, that it be clear to users when they are interacting with artificial intelligence and, in certain cases, that content created or modified by AI, such as realistic deepfake images, audio and video, must be appropriately labeled.
Innovation and compliance go hand in hand
The regulation does not only affect companies developing AI. Organizations that use generative AI tools, intelligent customer service solutions, or other AI-powered applications in their business operations should also review their processes. The use of AI increasingly comes with ensuring legal, ethical, and cybersecurity compliance.
This also means a new approach for technology companies: it is worth designing AI-based solutions early in the development process to meet regulatory expectations. The “trustworthy AI” and “compliance by design” approach not only helps with regulatory compliance, but can also strengthen market competitiveness and investor confidence in the long term.
