The Zsámbék Future Industry Science and Innovation Park is not a stand-alone project, but one of the pillars of a large-scale university development program. Óbuda University is establishing a science and innovation park in a total of three locations – Zsámbék, Székesfehérvár and Kaposvár – with an investment of approximately 57.5 billion forints. The common goal of the three parks is to bring university knowledge, research and industrial actors into one space, while each one builds its own professional profile.
The Óbuda University Science Park Program was founded on the realization that research and development results become truly useful for the economy when they are accompanied by physical space, industrial partnerships and a network of investor relations. In this spirit, the university is building three regional centers, each with a different industry focus, but operating within a common organizational and strategic framework.
Székesfehérvár – Mechatronics Science and Innovation Park
The Székesfehérvár park, developed by the Alba Regia Faculty of Engineering, is based on mechatronics research. The first four research laboratories have already been handed over in the Science Park’s “S” and “C1” buildings, as well as in the university’s “F” building. According to the plans, the facility should become self-sustaining within ten years of its completion, which shows that the park would continue to operate on a market basis in the long term, not relying solely on state support.
Kaposvár – Smart Industrial Science and Industry Park
The Kaposvár development is the country's first smart industrial science park, which is being implemented on a six-hectare area with several halls. The park's key research areas include the concept of a "smart building" with nearly zero energy requirements and equipped with intelligent control technology, metalworking and joining technology developments, and the recycling of environmentally polluting materials. Defense industry developments are also underway on site: in one of the park's production halls, localization and integration work on combat vehicles is underway, with the involvement of a German defense industry investor. The rector previously stated that the Kaposvár park works in a "digital twin" with the Budapest research labs - basic research will be located in Budapest, and the industrial innovation halls will be located in Kaposvár.
Zsámbék – Future Industry Science and Innovation Park
The Zsámbék park is the third pillar: the development focuses on research in cybersecurity, 5G/6G technologies, artificial intelligence, medical technology, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and robotics. A unique feature of the Zsámbék investment is that the country's first eco-conscious technology showroom and experience center will also be created here, which will include future industrial solutions in education and in sensitizing young people to STEM.
One network, shared international presence
The three parks are not developing in isolation: Óbuda University was among the first to become a member of the International Association of Science and Innovation Parks (IASP), and the aim is for all three parks – Zsámbék, Székesfehérvár and Kaposvár – to join the alliance independently in the near future. This international embeddedness also means an advantage for local businesses: the park's partners can thus access not only domestic but also international innovation networks.
