The University of Óbuda’s Zsámbéki Future Science and Innovation Park has successfully applied to participate in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intellectual Property Management Pilot Project in Geneva.
The project, and a series of online events organised by WIPO for technology and industrial parks in Eastern European, Balkan and Central Asian countries, ran for several months until the end of 2023. Our country was represented by the staff of the Zsámbéki Future Industry Science and Innovation Park of Óbuda University, the University of Óbuda University Research and Innovation Centre and the Széchenyi University of Győr Science and Innovation Park.
In addition to the V4 countries, representatives from the Western Balkans, Turkey, Ukraine and the Central Asian Turkic countries were also present. Following the presentation of the technoparks, WIPO presented the specific methodology used to manage intellectual property at European and international level. The parks were then divided into working groups; the University of Óbuda was grouped together with its Kazakh, Turkish, Montenegrin, Czech and Slovak counterparts. The event provided an excellent opportunity to build professional and personal contacts and to develop international science diplomacy.
The working groups met over several weeks to identify good practices and common points that have emerged in recent years in the field of intellectual property management in each country. They then also identified common needs that emerged as clear needs and missing services in several industrial parks. The common needs identified included the organisation of preparatory programmes, mediation between researchers, industrial partners, investors and other parties; finding forms of financing to bring technologies to the market; and the introduction of monitoring systems to verify the use of intellectual property rights.
The experience gained and the network of contacts established will be put to good use at all three “Science Parks” of Óbuda University.
